SAAL2 – online course in North Sámi with practical activities, 15 ECTS credits
Description
Target group:
Students who have studied Saal 1 or Davvin 1 and 2 or equivalent, and students with passive language skills.
Learning method:
So‑called “flipped learning”, meaning students read and learn material in advance and then meet for practical activities to practice what has been learned.
The course consists of 150 hours of organized learning. In addition, participants should expect to spend a total of 150 hours of self-study before and after the sessions.
Curriculum:
Davvin 3 and 4. Please specify at registration whether you want the books sent to you or if you already have them.
Course period:
Monday January 12, 2026 – Monday June 15, 2026
After the summer: August 10, 2026 – December 7, 2026
In addition, there will be an in-person course gathering in Skånland in May 2026.

Material fee:
Spring semester: NOK 2700 (refunded in spring)
Autumn semester: NOK 2700 (refunded in October)
Private exam (for those who want credits):
In December at the Sami University of Applied Sciences, Kautokeino (possibly also in Bergen).
Exam format:
Oral exam based on a portfolio of four texts.
The course gives 15 ECTS credits for those who pass the exam.
Requirements to take the exam:
– At least 80% attendance
– Completed coursework requirements
Exam fee:
NOK 2700 (paid in September 2026 and refunded after completing the exam).
Refund applies to students registered as residents in Norway.

– Members of NSR
– Sami individuals who have lost their language and wish to learn Sami
– Employees at public workplaces in Sami areas who wish to learn Sami
– Others (e.g. with Sami family or living in Sami areas) who wish to learn Sami

E-skuvla’s online course materials, Davvin 3 and Davvin 4.

Please mention whether any of the criteria for Sami affiliation apply to you (see below), and whether you wish to order Davvin 3 (book/CD) or Davvin 4 (book/CD).
Students who wish to take the exam must register for the private exam via Studentweb no later than September 1, 2026.
Exemption from general admission requirements:
Students who wish to take the exam and earn credits must normally have general university admission qualifications. However, exceptions are made for students with Sami affiliation.
You do not need to submit documentation if you are:
– A Sami person who has lost their language and wishes to learn Sami, or
– An employee at a public workplace in a Sami area who wants to learn Sami, or
– Other individuals (e.g. with Sami family or living in a Sami area) who want to learn Sami
